Themes
for Programme Development:
Very often a single training course does not have the necessary coverage to satisfy
the needs of a particular business or individual. For this reason we develop “short
programmes”, a subset of topics selected to specifically cover the whole of an important
issue. Project management could be such an issue though rather a large one. More
likely the issues of interest would be much smaller such as employee appraisals,
or presentation. Whilst these may sound like they could be covered by a single training
course, both are large topics supported by hundreds of excellent publications which
could not possibly be represented in a day. If a course was to be extended to many
days in order to be more representative, it would fall in the danger of covering
topics of no particular interest (redundancy).
For this reason we believe that the development of short programmes based on themes
helps to create more effective training courses with a minimum of redundancy and
more focus on the real issues of the day.
If the theme cannot be easily determined we will work through a needs analysis to
arrive at a training item shortlist. Then we will develop the short programme to
provide the coverage and eliminate redundancy. We have listed some themed short
programmes below as examples. Since these short programmes have been developed for
a particular purpose, it is unlikely that they would be an exact fit for others
as there seems to be an infinite variety in the perceived elements of the needs
of each business. Nevertheless these examples can serve as inspiration at the outset.
Themes may be based on business functions, skills, competencies, particular markets,
particular clients, projects or even particular teams. Whatever the nature of the
theme we will be able to find an effective solution.
