Managing Time in Business

Description:

This two-day course on managing time in business covers an important business productivity topic.

Time passes. What is done in the time as it passes is what is often called managing time. In fact it has more to do with managing work in the case of groups and managing habits in the case of individuals. Both are to do with productivity, that is, what work can be done in the time allotted. Most businesses do not measure productivity except in the simplest of cases and poor management of time is a symptom of this fact. This course therefore is about the nature of work and how it is performed. Benchmarking and performance indices are broad measures of performance which can guide the general output of the group. This is a good start but there is more that can be done to provide a productive environment and improve the bottom line. Motivation is crucial for a sustainable system of high production.

This two-day course will focus on the real issues of performance and the measurement of productivity even in the professional services providers’ environment. Work will be a major focus, what it is and how it is performed. The metrics derived from this study will feed any needed revision in the working methods, including the inclusion of technology. The course will focus on the people issues and the way people use the time available. It will look at behaviour and productive groupings and consider the impact of competition. Finally it will consider the management of work and people within the environment controlled and influenced by the bureaucracy.

The course considers the management of time based upon a good foundation of working practices. This will involve the development of schedules, considering the people and other resources required, risk as it may impact on the schedule and cost. The manner in which the information is derived and used and the outcome measured will be part of the group activity, and feedback will be essential. The process of managing the information flow and the development of the schedule and the monitoring and control of the schedule will all be considered in order to produce a sound and effective time management system.

An Attendance Certificate will be provided at the end of this skill course.
