Managing Conflict in Business

Description:

This one-day course covers an important general skill.

The course is focused on the very important role that conflict plays in both the success and failure within business. There is success when positive conflict is allowed to dominate and negative conflict is eradicated. Everyone understands conflict and how it can arise and spread and yet many of us are reluctant to “get involved” and remove it. The reason is often that we feel it is not our business and “they” should sort it out themselves.

The course will use the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument which has stood the test of time. It will look at the five modes of conflict resolution and their use, and course members will try putting the process into practice. The course will also look at many of the habits and behaviours which cause conflict and how they can be changed to provide people with a more predictable working environment. It looks at culture as a source of conflict and friction and what people need to do to peacefully coexist in a multicultural environment.

The course will equally look at positive conflict and how to create it. It will look at collaboratively creating the willingness to help each other by active and fresh discussions from many points of view. It will consider tools which are available to help you work around the problems and challenges you face on complex projects where a single solution is rarely available.

Conflict is part of the human condition and to fully understand it we need to look deeply into ourselves and understand the reasons why we are prepared to risk good relationships for the purpose of making a comment which might not in the end have any benefit to us. The course will look at ways of creating an environment of cooperation and wellbeing where all opinions can be tolerated and considered to determine the best positive way forward.

Conflict management is a crucial business skill for the management and functional teams and the success of a business can often depend on the collaboration of the parties involved.

An Attendance Certificate will be provided at the end of this course.
