How do I manage difficult people

This is a problem all companies have and many never learn the knack of managing underperformance. Underperforming effects other members of your team and can have extremely negative consequences. Start from the moment of employment and work towards successful integration but if all else fails you may have to consider removing those concerned. This needs to handled sensitively.

What is the difference between Partnering and Alliancing?

Partnering is a process of creating an environment of trust and cooperation regardless of the contract binding the parties. Alliancing relies on a contract which itself encourages trust and  cooperation. Therefore there is less likelihood of conflict arising out of agreements made during the partnering process and the contract documents. Alliancing is most often used on large or complex projects.

What is Performance Based Leadership?

Performance Based Leadership is a concept based upon isolating the issues which make an enterprise successful, determining those essential success factors related to those issues, based on performance, and then developing a culture of high productivity by measuring performance against those success factors in an open and collaborative way.

The success of this style of leadership is in the willingness of those involved to participate. The leader in this environment is extremely important not only as the champion but as the coach and mentor to all of those he is leading. His job is to develop the conditions for change, a collaborative environment in which goals can be set and achieved by the team as part of a  culture of performance rather than just a process.
